The Canon Pixma MG8150 is a better printer than the excellent MG6150, but unless you have a strong desire for slide scanning, it’s hard to justify the extra cost.
The Canon PIXMA MG8150 is a multifunction inkjet printer that has every feature a home user might need. Reasonable document print quality and exposure, an excellent scanner for document or film negatives, and wireless and direct printing properties. However, the slightly sensitive interface is not very easy to use.
The Canon Pixma MG8150 is, slightly larger at 470 x 392 x 199mm but each is, a large glossy black multifunction inkjet printer. With highlights on the touchscreen controls that take the darkness out of context-specific matters.

The multifunction aspect of the Canon PIXMA MG8150 realizes scanning via the CIS scan head 4800 x 4800dpi, repeating through mechanisms and constant printing. Fax could be a real travel feature, but we’re seeing less multifunction with fax these days. At least in the consumer/SOHO area. but you will print still images directly from HD movies.
The Canon Pixma MG8150 prints from six color inkjet tanks to plain paper. Exposure media and to CD and optical disc media, providing a lot of operational flexibility. Association via USB or 802.11n local area network. And is compatible with Canon’s simple exposure Print App for iPhone and iPad. It’s not quite as comprehensive as HP’s competitive ePrint solutions we’ve seen on the Envy 100 and Photosmart B110.
Tested for outstanding print quality, speed and options
The Canon PIXMA MG8150 uses six ink tanks to deliver spectacular results for any plain text document and photo. It’s a quiet and fairly fast inkjet printer, producing about twelve monochrome pages per minute at the usual quality settings in our tests. A 20-page color A4 document prints in exactly 2 minutes (9ppm). If you want to save a lot of paper costs, the Canon MG8150 can be a good alternative — it’s an automatic two-sided printing option for traditional A4 paper.
The color print quality of the Canon PIXMA MG8150 is very reasonable, with sharp image details and realistic color gradations. Printing high-quality images on exposure paper consumes a lot of ink and takes longer than printing a document, but the results are well worth it. Due to the special gray ink cartridge, the grayscale output of the Canon MG8150 is clean and smooth. Interestingly, this printer appears without visible ink in darker image areas.
Canon PIXMA MG8150 Easy-to-Use Connectivity
Canon’s PIXMA MG8150 includes a layout similar to alternative PIXMA models such as the PIXMA iP4850, but wider and taller at 470x392x199mm. The 3.5-inch LCD screen in the center of the printer’s tall panel has an easy-to-understand graphical interface. But the touch-sensitive buttons underneath aren’t as user-friendly as we’d like. Since there’s no physical feedback, you’ll accidentally hit it twice if you’re not careful.
The Canon PIXMA MG8150 has, an association-level LAN port for connecting to a wired home network, and 802.11n Wi-Fi is included. There is a USB 2.0 port on the back of the printer for connecting a computer (though the USB cable is not included). The USB host port on the front of the printer, allows the camera or PictBridge-enabled USB memory to be directly accessed.
Summary
While this is a fine all-in-one, ideal for home lighting enthusiasts. It’s hard to check anywhere else there’s added value for nearly £75, over and above the PIXMA MG6150. The MG8150 has a slightly larger LCD screen, a better resolution scanner, and a transparency adapter, but everything else is the same. However, if you have an association-level archive of old-fashioned slides. That you need to convert, or use with regular photography, it’s definitely worth the extra.
